What is this page?
The Hebrew Bible contains hundreds of passages that Jewish and Christian traditions have interpreted as messianic prophecies — predictions about a future deliverer. The New Testament writers claim that Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled these predictions, written centuries before his birth.
This page does not ask you to believe that. It asks a narrower, more testable question: if these prophecies are genuine predictions, what are the mathematical odds of one person fulfilling them by chance?
We currently examine 400 prophecy-fulfillment pairs, drawn from peer-reviewed and scholarly sources. Each one links an Old Testament passage to a New Testament claim of fulfillment, with the actual verse text visible below so you can evaluate the connection yourself. We use conservative probability estimates and only multiply independent events — prophecies that are statistically related (like multiple details about the crucifixion) are grouped so they aren't double-counted.
The result is not proof. It is a transparent computation you can audit, disagree with, and adjust. Every number is sourced. Every assumption is stated.
This computation multiplies the estimated a priori probabilities of independent messianic prophecies being fulfilled by chance in a single person. Each probability represents a conservative estimate of how likely the described event would occur without divine orchestration.
The methodology follows Peter Stoner's approach in "Science Speaks" (1958), which was reviewed by the American Scientific Affiliation. Key principles:
1. Conservative estimates: Each probability is deliberately set higher (more likely) than most scholars would estimate, to avoid overstating the case. 2. Independence requirement: Only statistically independent prophecies are multiplied. When multiple prophecies describe aspects of the same event (e.g., crucifixion details from Psalm 22), only the most conservative probability from that group is used. 3. Limitations: These are estimates, not measured probabilities. Scholars disagree on which Old Testament passages are messianic prophecies. The value of this exercise is the order of magnitude, not the precise number. 4. What this does NOT prove: Statistical improbability alone does not constitute proof. This analysis quantifies how remarkable the pattern of fulfillment is, inviting further investigation rather than demanding a conclusion.
