ἀφειδία

The Greek word ἀφειδία (apheidia) is a concept that means "unsparing." This essentially refers to a lack of care or consideration. It can be understood as neglect, disregard, or a failure to show compassion. Given its meaning, the range of usage for ἀφειδία appears to be limited to contexts where consequences of someone's actions or intentions result in the opposite of expected results. In other words, when one intended to be careful, but ended up being inconsiderate. We find this word used only once in the New Testament, indicating that its significance might be specific to a particular context. However, its meaning conveys a sense of being responsible for unintentional harm, emphasizing the importance of showing compassion and care in all interactions.
